Today, on August 26, in the city of Osaka (Japan), the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan signed an agreement to create a design concept for the reconstruction of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, by the world famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
The project to update the appearance of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan will soon start its implementation. Tadao Ando, the world famous Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize laureate, will take up the reconstruction design concept. His architectural style can be described as “critical regionalism.” Projects of Tadao Ando are well known for their uniqueness in the use of natural light, as well as the natural forms of the landscape in architecture. His structures are often intertwined with the external and internal space, forming large figures. Tadao Ando applies national aesthetic values to the architecture of modern buildings.
Among the outstanding projects of the master of Japanese architecture are: Teatro Armani in Milan (2001), Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art in Texas (2002), Chichu Museum of Arts in Naoshima (2004), 21_21 Design Sight Museum in Tokyo created together with the famous Japanese fashion designer Issei Miyake (2007), Art Punta della Dogana Center for Contemporary in Venice (2009). One of the latest projects of Tadao Ando was the reconstruction of the Exchange in the city of Paris, where in early 2020 the Foundation for Contemporary Art of the French collector and philanthropist Francois Pinault will open.
Under the terms of the agreement signed today in Osaka, the Tadao Ando company will conduct conceptual and sketch projection at the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan, and, after approving the museum’s design concept, will conduct a complete architectural reconstruction of the building.
The current building of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan was designed by three Soviet architects: I. Abdulov, A.K. Nikiforov and S.A. Rosen-Blum in 1974. The creation of this project was inspired by the work of Le Corbusier, a French architect, founder of architectural modernism, functionalism and cubism, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a German modernist architect.
