Art and culture development foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan organizes an Evening of modern Russian and foreign choreography on November 5 at 19:30 at the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre named after Alisher Navoi.
Within the program of the Evening of modern Russian and foreign choreography, works of six Russian choreographers will be presented. We are talking about the productions by Anna Schekleina and Alexander Frolov, Ernest Nurgali, Konstantin Semenov, and Irina Kononova. These works were specially created for the International contemporary choreography festival Context. Diana Vishneva, which takes place every autumn in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and has been highly appreciated by the jury of the festival's Competition for Young Choreographers in various years.
The evening will be complemented by Maxim Petrov's “Russian Deadlocks-II” production, for which the choreographer was awarded the Golden Mask National Theatre Prize in 2021. Each of the performances will be a striking choreographic statement, combining a unique style, technique, and skill with space, sound, and scenery.
The production "Sinergia" choreographed by Anna Schekleina and Alexander Frolov was created in the spaces of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts for the film "Imprint in motion", and then, in the process of development, was specifically transferred to the stage space. The work "The hit" by Ernest Nurgali brought the producer a victory in the Context. Diana Vishneva Young Choreographers Competition in 2020. The performances of "Pagodas" by Konstantin Semyonov and "Ave ever" by Anna Schekleina are set to classical music: Claude Debussy and Giulio Caccini ("Ave Maria"), respectively. Choreographer Irina Kononova's work "Black Friday" won the Audience Award at the Context. Diana Vishneva Festival in 2018.
A gift and a special event for the audience will be the evening's closing touching duet, "The Old Man and I," by Dutch choreographer Hans van Manen. The composition about the fragility of human relationships, about disappointment, love, joy, happiness, and parting is full of quiet melancholy and is created for professionally mature performers with enough life experience. The roles in the duet The Old Man and I will be performed by Diana Vishneva, the artistic director of the festival and prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre, and Vladimir Malakhov, an outstanding ballet dancer, choreographer, and ballet master of the 20th century.
Guests will include students of the Tashkent State Higher School of National Dance and Choreography, the State Academy of Choreography of Uzbekistan, and other choreographic schools in Tashkent. Also, cultural workers, teachers, and inclusive resource centers will receive tickets.
