On 11 May 2018, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan held talks with the French delegation from the Louvre Museum. Ms. Violet de Vilmore, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Uzbekistan also took part in the negotiations. The parties discussed the organisation of the national exhibition of Uzbekistan in the Louvre Museum with the assistance of Art & Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The goal of the exhibition is to present civilisations and cultures that lie on the caravan routes of South and Central Asia, located on the territory of today's Uzbekistan.
During the talks the main aspects of the exhibition, the preliminary composition of the national exposition and potential mutually beneficial cooperation in future were discussed.
As a result of the negotiations, preliminary agreements were reached on the assistance of the Louvre Museum in the opening in Uzbekistan of a specialised centre for the preservation and restoration of cultural values, as well as the creation of electronic records of museum collections.
During their visit to Uzbekistan the delegation from the Louvre Museum also held talks in the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
At the same time the French delegation visited the Afrosiab Museum of the History of Samarkand, the Institute of Archaeological Research under the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Samarkand, the Institute of Art Studies under the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent, the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan and the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan.
Information: the Louvre, the world’s most frequented museum of art, boasts a collection of over 300 thousand items, with only 35 thousand of them exhibited simultaneously. The Louvre collection contains artefacts collected from all over the world and belonging to highly diverse periods, which form individual thematic groups: ancient eastern civilisations, ancient Egypt, antiquity (ancient Greece, Etruria, Rome), sculpture, visual arts and painting, graphic art, applied art and art of the Islamic East (established in 2003).
Art & Culture Development Foundation under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan was established in October 2017 with the purpose of providing state support, ensuring further development of national culture and arts in Uzbekistan, and expanding international and intergovernmental cultural links.
