- Uzbekistan unveils Mahalla Unframed at Alserkal Art Week in Dubai
The Art and Culture Development Foundation will present an interdisciplinary exhibition Mahalla Unframed at Alserkal Art Week which is taking place in Dubai during Art Dubai Fair.
Exhibition and a series of public talks on the preservation of cultural heritage, the future of museums and the revival of traditional crafts in contemporary design will be organised by Foundation in contemporary design Alserkal Avenue Warehouse 46.
Mahalla Unframed virtually takes the visitor within the walls of a typical Tashkent courtyard house. A cloud of millions of points. In the background it’s possible to discover life-size abstraction in tubular steel that was presented during Uzbekistan National Participation at the 17th international Architecture Exhibition - La biennale di Venezia. Curated by Christ &Gantenbein, with the participation of Carlos Casas and Bas Princen.
Rapidly developing cultural cooperation between the UAE and Uzbekistan
In November 2021 the Art and Culture Development Foundation presented an extensive cultural program within National participation of Uzbekistan at EXPO-2020. Later on, in December 2021, ACDF presented exhibition "Dixit Algorizmi" at the Al Burda festival, which was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs of the UAE.
Today's participation of the Art and Culture Development Foundation at Alserkal Art Week is a unique opportunity to tell about the cultural potential of Uzbekistan and integrate the country into the global contemporary art environment.
The Foundation presents Uzbekistan in a new way, as a country with progressive thinking and creative potential that helps to create a future for the benefit of humanity by shaping shared values. The UAE and Uzbekistan are historically closely linked and the implementation of joint cultural projects further strengthens bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Uzbekistan in several priority areas.

Description:
This session will focus on the contemporary development of urban fabric within contexts of high heritage value. Using this opportunity Uzbekistan will present the project “Mahalla: Urban Rural Living”, launched at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice in May 2021. In Uzbekistan, a ‘mahalla’ is a traditional neighborhood and form of community life; a Modern institution of power; and a place where state and society meet at local level. These multiple meanings are at stake within an urban fabric developing at high pace. The discussion will address challenges of preservation of a living heritage and of evolution of a fragile ecosystem which has the potential to offer society sustainable ways of living.
